What this site is for

It exists to help someone decide about the surgery that deals with skin left behind by a large weight loss. The medical background, on how tissue behaves, how skin ages and how a surgical service is organised, is already documented in the hospital's subject sites for breast and body contouring and in Dr. Mao's own professional site. What is missing is the patient's side of it, in the particular situation where the weight came off with treatment: how stability is judged when an appetite is still being suppressed, what has to be corrected before an operation rather than after it, and how a plan is spread across a year.

How it is written

Every guide follows one question from beginning to end, and states its limits as plainly as its benefits. Where an expectation is unrealistic, the text says so. Where skin quality will cap what any operation can achieve, the text says that too. Nothing here is written to make a long operation sound like a short one, and no result is promised.

What it will not do

It will not name brands of drugs, devices or materials: products are described by class only. It will not quote prices, because cost depends on the plan and the plan depends on an assessment. It will not publish dosages, and it will not invent credentials, awards or case volumes for any clinician.

Medical review

The content is reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery at Chongqing West District Hospital, and is dated on every page. It is patient education, not medical advice: it does not describe your case, and it does not replace an assessment by a qualified clinician who has examined you and reviewed your history.
